Brittany, better known to the world as “A Hot MS,” was diagnosed with SPMS in September of 2019. She says, “I knew that my purpose on earth was being screamed at me the second I was diagnosed. Of course, I cried. I ugly cried. And I’m not ashamed to admit that I fell into a funk for about 2 weeks. It was hard. I was learning so much about my body and why it did the crazy things it did. I was figuring out how to manage everything at once.” Brittany flew in to advocate mode not long after hearing she had multiple sclerosis.
She runs a successful Instagram page where she connects with others living with MS, as well as other chronic illnesses and inspires her followers to live within positivity. She regularly shares clips of performances of her original songs, as well as positive sayings and notes from a chronically ill woman focussing on her abilities, rather than her disabilities. In addition to being a talented singer and performer, Brittany uses fashion and creativity to connect with her peers. She has personalized and customized all mobility aids that she uses to continue living her active lifestyle.
She says, “When I was told I should use a cane I knew it wasn’t going to be some aluminum get up from CVS next to the enema aisle, I wanted to make it a fashion statement. And that’s what I did. I strive to one day be on the cover of some sort of fashion publication sporting a mobility aid. I think we should all be given that chance to change how disability is viewed. It doesn’t mean I’m going to stop wearing leather or red lipstick. It means I’m going to double up my leather and rock it WITH my leopard walking cane or my AFO which I had customized with iridescent glitter.”
Brittany never imagined the type of support she would receive from being honest and sharing her experiences through social media. Connecting with others living with MS has given her the ability to embrace her entire self. If you would like to learn more about Brittany or “A Hot MS,” make sure to visit her page @ahotms.

"HealthCentral emboldens each of us to take daily steps to live healthier lives, no matter our starting point. Our focus is on people and their stories, whether they’re living with chronic health conditions, supporting someone who is, or are health care providers engaged in clinical care.
We believe there’s no better guide than someone who has walked in our shoes and that intimate, revealing personal stories can inspire positive, sometimes lifesaving, health changes: at home, at the doctor’s office, at work, and in our communities."
