I’m sure many of us have heard the words “You’re so brave.” We made the choice to take charge of our health. To purposely alter our bodies in order to prevent ever seeing the “C” word end up on our medical records. Sure we have seen Doctor after Doctor until we felt confident enough to lock in our A-Team for the big day. We stock piled post op supplies to make our recovery a little more enjoyable. We patiently waited with a chill in the air as our surgeons turned our chests into a sketch pad. We stood on the infamous ”X” to take our before and after photos. Being brave isn’t just about storing up heroic moments. It’s about facing the crappy hand your dealt with poise; regardless if you’re a total disaster on the inside.
“It’s not always just the strong determined face and tall stance that leads the hopeful to victory. Sometimes it is the dressing of the wounds and unmasking of the scars that adds to the curation of bravery. “ - Brittany Quiroz
