When I began my quest for world domination of knowledge for people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis I had a ton of information being thrown at me. Networking oddly enough seemed to be such a great resource as far as hearing what works for certain people and such. Everyone thinks their way if the best which may be true for their body. But again everyone processes foods and vitamins differently. One may have been taking the same brand of vitamin for decades and swears by it while another tries a new one every month to switch it up to the latest craze trending in the health market.
I've never been one to have a solid vitamin regime. I literally as a kid was given HORSE PILLS by my Mother and would stash them under my mattress or behind the headboard of my bed. Yah well when we moved years later and that bed was disassembled what do you think my parents found? I had enough vitamins to care for small village in Romania behind that thing. What kid can swallow a vitamin the size of a 50 cent piece...no offense Mom.
To better my search of taking supplements that would be the best for me I started researching what exactly MS does to our body.
*Immune system is shot
*Nervous system is jacked up
*Balance is gone
*Muscle Control is questionable
*Can cause vision issues
*Insert Whiplash Mood Swings Here
*Increased Cardiovascular Risk
Ok So that's a pretty extensive list. But what do we do with it? We tackle one thing at a time and educate ourselves on what we can put into our bodies to assist with each issue. I'm not saying run out to your local drug store and clear out the aisle. Going over board can be just as overwhelming as being clueless to a solution. Immunity plays a huge factor is our lives with MS. We are already being attacked daily by our own nervous system.
Ever seen an electrician strip a wire? That's what my immune system is doing to me entire nervous system. I would know this. My husband is an electrician and a dang good one. I've seen his wire strippers or "dancers" as he calls them, in action. We are 10 times more at risk to get sick than others around us with stronger immune systems. So we take the normal "extra' precautions. Washing our hands to the point they are drive to the bone. Hand- sanitizer is our new favorite accessory. Staying away from sick people. Not biting our nails and putting our hands in our mouths. I'm guilty of that as a cuticle biter myself.
Antioxidant foods and vitamins are KEY for our survival to steer clear from a shaky flu season that sweeps the nation yearly. We can do this with foods and supplements. Vitamins B6 and B12 are incredible for antioxidant mechanisms. We want to rid our bodies of free radicals AKA oxidants. These are molecules in our bodies that can actually damage cells and contribute to getting sick and even quicken the aging process. My Mother is a great example of that. She is 54 and looks like she is a few years past 30. This is all credited to food and living an active and healthy life style.
There is no easy solution to any of this. No magic pill. No light switch to flip and everything is miraculously fixed. It takes dedication and a commitment to a permanent life change.
Vitamins C and E play a huge roll in our immunity fighting warrior as well. Antioxidants decrease the damage those pesky oxidants cause.
Echinacea Is also great for immune support. Echinacea is a flowering plant native to North America and a member of the daisy (Asteraceae) family. Some studies suggest that echinacea may be helpful for decreasing the duration and symptoms of the common cold. Taking this in raw liquid form in the best in my opinion.
Vitamin D is one of the most important vitamins we can take as MS patients. It is known to have an affect on slowing down the progression of MS symptoms. Researchers checked the symptoms of people in an early stage of MS. They found that after 5 years, those with more vitamin D in their blood had fewer problems. I could take for pages and pages on vitamins but I really want to share my regimen with you. Maybe it will become yours as well.

I hope that my regime inspires you to start looking into the vitamins that you take. Stay away with anything honestly from CVS. It's mostly synthetic and full of fillers. Staying Raw and Whole Food is the best way to go. We know what we are putting into our bodies from food. It's all food.
Vita this vita that. Vita up! It will make a difference. Small changes for a bigger solution. One day at a time.
